Place photographs side by side and note differences in lettering, borders and colour. Keep catalogue references separate from your own observations; a similar picture alone does not establish an issue or value.

Keep the finished note with its date and source material. Return to it when you repeat the exercise, and add what changed rather than replacing the earlier observation.
